Practice: Supplementing natural lighting

One of my approaches to this film was to use natural/naturalistic lighting for the sake of authenticity to the place or scene. My inclination is to light with beautifully crafted Rembrandt or Noir style lighting, but this is very seldom real world or what we might see or experience, so I tried to deliberately avoid that and instead compliment the lighting that existed in a location in order to achieve a naturalistic feel.

This i think really worked in the meat locker scene. It had one overhead flourescent light, and was not enough for the camera to achieve a good exposure. So it was supplemented with an LED panel light placed is a similar location. It definitely gives a naturlistic low lit grimy look to the scene.

The alleyway scene was another example. there was some existing tungsten light, there was daylight and there was also a security light that kept switching on and off which was incredibly grating, and unfortunately shows up in the edit. Once again, I supported existing light by using two LED's: one up on a platform to support the day light, the other in the alleyway behind the action to support the tungsten light.
